Proverbs 2:7- He layeth up sound wisdom for the righteous: he is a buckler to them that walk uprightly.
The word layeth here refers to a storing up, that of which a treasure is hidden. Yes, God's wisdom is abundant, it is stored up for us but in a manner it's hidden. We established God gives his wisdom liberally, but to who? Those that are righteous. Even with Solomon receiving wisdom in abundance, he was righteous in that he asked for it. Therefore if we desire this hidden treasure of wisdom, we must live righteously.
The word buckler points to a protector. God is our protector if we are walking uprightly. Now let us couch this in grace. We do know many times God protects us in our folly, and we are thankful for his grace and mercy. Yet we know also, that there is blessing in obedience. It seems we are more likely to benefit from his protection when we are walking uprightly. If I were to walk down the street with my earthly father as a child, the more likely it would be that if danger came I would receive his protection. If I went the opposite way, I would not. The same goes for our heavenly Father. If we walk with him, he is our buckler; if we walk in opposition, he is not.
