Proverbs 4:1- Hear, ye children, the instruction of a father, and attend to know understanding.

What a blessing it is to have fathers. Men who love their sons and daughters and endeavor to instruct them. If one has a father one should listen to a father. Even a foolish father is often wiser than a child, they indeed have something to offer. The child can hear or ignore this instruction. The charge is to attend and hear, thus gaining understanding. Much can be learned from our earthly fathers, even as we become adults, we can often gain more wisdom from their instruction.

Having an instructive earthly father is good and having a heavenly Father is better. Aren't we glad we have his instruction? The Bible instructs, guides, directs, and is given to us by our heavenly Father. He also speaks to us through creation, meditation, and prayer. Our Father cares for us and instructs us. We must attend to his teachings as much as we can. May we hear and not neglect his words, instruction, and teaching. For it is in him where our greatest understanding is.
