Genesis 23:2-4- And Sarah died in Kirjatharba; the same is Hebron in the land of Canaan: and Abraham came to mourn for Sarah, and to weep for her. And Abraham stood up from before his dead, and spake unto the sons of Heth, saying, I am a stranger and a sojourner with you: give me a possession of a buryingplace with you, that I may bury my dead out of my sight.
Abrahams wife, Sarah, has died at the age of one hundred and twenty seven. What a heart ache it must have been. To show honor to her and her body Abraham goes out to seek a place to bury her. The rest of the chapter covers that land he bought in order to do this. Have you ever thought, why this is covered in such great detail? Perhaps one of the reasons is the bodies of God's children are special to him. Our bodies should be both honored in life and death. What a travesty it would of been in Abraham just cast the body of his beloved wife into the woods for the wolves to devour. He does no such thing but rather seeks out a respectable place to lay the body. We are thankful that Christ has paid for our bodies, as well as the body of Sarah. We are thankful that when Christ comes back, the body and Sarah will be resurrected from the dead, what a thought! We are thankful that this is possible, for Christ too was laid in a buryingplace, that of which could not hold him. For he is risen! May we honor the bodies that God has given us in this life, may we honor them in death, for the will be honored in his second coming. God always gets what he pays for.
