Proverbs 3:31- Envy not the oppressor, and choose none of his ways.
Envy means to be zealously jealous of somebody. An oppressor is one who harasses with unjust or cruel treatment. We are to observe and turn from men like this. We are not to say some of his ways are ok and some are bad, I will copy those not as bad. But rather we are to choose none of the ways of the oppressor, for his ways are evil. Note that the greatest oppressor of them all is Satan. His ways are deceitful, cunning, crafty, disorderly, hateful, greedy, and so on. We then are not to choose some of these but rather neglect them all. We are also not to wish for the same power of an oppressor or money that an oppressor has gained. We would be much better off looking to Christ. He was meek and lowly. He had not a place to lay his head. Yet, he did not oppress anyone but came to set them free. He set us free from the bondage of thinking that we had to keep the law to be saved, he set us free from hell, he set us free from the grave; yes, Christ is the opposite of the oppressor, he is the liberator! May we choose all his ways.
In Christ,
