Proverbs 2:10-17- When wisdom entereth into thine heart, and knowledge is pleasant unto thy soul; Discretion shall preserve thee, understanding shall keep thee: To deliver thee from the way of the evil man, from the man that speaketh froward things; Who leave the paths of uprightness, to walk in the ways of darkness; Who rejoice to do evil, and delight in the frowardness of the wicked; Whose ways are crooked, and they froward in their paths: To deliver thee from the stranger which flattereth with her words; Which forsaketh the guide of her youth, and forgetteth the covenant of her God.
What a long sentence. There certainly is much here but I think the overall theme of this passage is to be discreet. As mentioned in Sunday's sermon, the world will tell us that it is good to be forward; do what you want, and say what you want. The Bible says the opposite. In fact, the passage states that discretion shall preserve us. If one knows how to control their actions, as well as their tongues, they will preserve their relationships, friendships, and employment. Note in the passage forwardness is the ways of the wicked. What fellowship hath light with darkness. Friends forwardness is not God's way, we must depart from it. Remember, we do not depart from it for the speaking of truth but when what we have on our minds would bring offense to one of God's little ones.
For the men, in heeding this warning it will deliver us from strange women. Women who have forsaken their God. Yes, the God of their youth, forgetting the covenant that God has made with them. A sad state to be in indeed. These women can be dangerous. We are to watch our tongues and actions around them, for they can lead to great destruction. Keep thy heart then. Allow God's wisdom to penetrate your heart, for his knowledge is pleasant to our souls.
