Proverbs 3:7- Be not wise in thine own eyes: fear the LORD, and depart from evil.
The wisdom of men will only get us so far. I like to think of manly wisdom as common sense. There are some things the non-believers figure out in this world that can help them get by from day to day. But the child of God must not rely on common sense. We must rely on the wisdom of God. This verse emphasises fearing the LORD. Yes, having a referential fear of God is a good thing. As I feared disappointing or receiving a chastisement from my earthly father, we too should fear this from our heavenly Father. When we have this fear, we should couple it with departing from evil. Evil has a way of creeping into our lives doesn't it? It creeps in through the cell phone, the T.V., the computer, society in general. We must always be on guard, knowing what evil truly looks like and is. We must be in his word, gaining this knowledge. Then as we see evil or even partake, we must soon flee it, before it gets the best of us.
