As a Nurse Cherisheth her Children
As a Nurse Cherisheth her Children

As a Nurse Cherisheth her Children

1st Thessalonians 2:5-8- For neither at any time used we flattering words, as ye know, nor a cloke of covetousness; God is witness: Nor of men sought we glory, neither of you, nor yet of others, when we might have been burdensome, as the apostles of Christ. But we were gentle among you, even as a nurse cherisheth her children: So being affectionately desirous of you, we were willing to have imparted into you, not the gospel of God only, but also our own souls, because ye were dear unto us.

Trying to live up to the holiness of Christ is, as we know, impossible and even though being flawed, trying to live up to the holiness of the Apostles is tough as well. We see here that they did not try to impress the people with flattering words, nor did Christ. We also see they did not covet the possessions or the money of the people, nor did Christ. They did not seek glory from the church at Thessalonica or any other men but rather sought to preach the truth of our Lord Jesus.

They were not aggressive toward the church. They did not try to rule the church because they knew that Christ is the Lord over the church. Rather they were gentle. As gentle as a nurse would be with an infant child. They did indeed impart the gospel to that church. This is good in itself but the Apostles gave much more. They imparted their souls to the people, wow! They really cared for them. The preaching of the gospel was not to gain popularity, power, or accolades but rather they preached it because the people were dear to them. When we share the gospel, may we all have the same attitude. Let us share it because we care.

God Bless,
