John 5:40-42- And ye will not come to me, that ye might have life. I receive not honour from men. But I know you, that ye have not the love of God in you.
It is certain that man can get puffed up even in their believe of Christ. Christ knew man would tend to think this way, that is why he makes it clear that he does not receive honour from men. That is to say, that he does not receive honor from men who have not been born again by the Spirit of God. He's addressing the unregenerate. He tells them, "you will not come to me". The natural man will not come to Christ, therefore Christ receives no honour from men. Consider 1st Corinthians 2:14- But the natural man recieveth not the things of of the Spirit of God: for they are foolishness unto him: neither can he know them, because they are spiritually discerned.
So then, the only way one can have love for God is if God works it into them first. John 6:44- No man can come to me, except the Father which sent me draw him: and I will raise him up at the last day. You see here that the Father must draw his children first, If this does not take place, the natural man will never come to Christ; for they do not have the capability. John 6:63- It is the spirit that quickeneth; the flesh profiteth nothing:..... Jesus could not be any clearer here. The flesh is useless without the Spirit of God. It is by the Spirit that we: give honour to Christ, come to Christ, know Christ, and partake in good works. Therefore he gets all glory and honour, for without him we can do nothing.
